Get to know Drawa and Kangpo, Mascot of PON 2020 Papua

The Executive Board of the National Sports Week (PB PON) has officially announced the mascot for PON 2020 Papua. There are two mascots for this edition's fourth annual championship.

The PON mascots introduced are two unique animals of Papua. The first mascot was given the name Drawa, which depicted a typical Papuan bird, the Bird of Paradise. The second mascot is called Kangpo which is short for tree kangaroo animal name.

According to the Chairman of the PB PON Field 2, John Wei, the two animals were chosen to be the mascot's inspiration because they are characteristic of Papua. "Both of these mascots are native to Papua. For Kangaroos, indeed it is known from Australia. It turns out, in Papua there is and is known as tree kangaroos," said John Wei quoted from Antara.

Kangpo uses a tassel on the head and waist which is a great dress for men and women. Then, there is a carving on a belt which is a typical design of Papua. On the front of the crown also displays an illustration of a snowy mountain which is a picture of the summit of Mount Jayawijaya.

Meanwhile, Drawa is also depicted using a crown and tassel. On his chest there is a medal with a red and white string that symbolizes togetherness over the medal in the NKRI frame. Drawa's body is given an orange color that symbolizes warmth, friendship and love.

The yellow color on Drawa's head is the original color of paradise which symbolizes enthusiasm, warmth and joy. The number of wings, tail and fingers on the two legs of Drawa symbolizes the XX PON which is planned to open on October 20, 2020, at 20:00 CEST.

In addition to the logo and mascot, previously there has also been a PON XX 2020 tagline, namely "Torang Bisa". The word is a typical Papuan encouragement that aims to inflame the fighting spirit of the athletes.
