The Government Builds a New Airport in Fakfak, West Papua, Indonesia

The Ministry of Transportation is planning to build a new airport in Fakfak, West Papua. This was done after the Fakfak Regency Government granted the land to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

"We greatly appreciate the participation of the Fakfak Regency Government in improving the development of transportation, especially air transportation in the West Papua Region," said Director General of Civil Aviation, Polana B Pramesti in his written statement, Saturday (12/28/2019).

The Fakfak Regency Government has granted land located in Siboru Village, Wartutin District, Fakfak Regency, covering an area of ​​700,000 m2 which will be used for the construction of the New Airport in Siboru.

"The implementation of land grants can support the acceleration of airport development and is an administrative order to support the implementation of the budget in accordance with statutory provisions," said Polana.

The construction of the New Airport in Siboru - Fakfak is aimed at building a transportation network node, an economic gateway, and supporting economic and trade activities in the West Papua Region.

At present, Fakfak Regency has UPBU Torea-Fakfak as one of its accesses to and from Fakfak. Torea Airport is flown by ATR 72 aircraft and only has a runway length of 1200 x 30 m, an apron of 70 x 120 m and a taxiway width of 19 meters.

"Hopefully, the Airport Development in Siboru - Fakfak can be carried out in full accordance with the standards that refer to the laws and regulations in order to create a safe, comfortable and safe flight," he said.
