Fishing Boat Assistance for Mimika Fishermen
Fishing Boat Assistance for Mimika Fishermen |
Mimika fishermen in Papua province are now getting good news. The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) will provide assistance of 40 fishing vessels to fishermen in Mimika Regency, Papua Province.
.
The fishing vessel assistance is expected to be able to encourage increased fish production by local fishermen in Mimika while at the same time raising their welfare level.
.
"What we are helping is small fishermen who have not had adequate fishing facilities and infrastructure," said Director General of Maritime and Fisheries Product Competitiveness (PDSPKP) KKP, Agus Suherman in Timika.
.
Suherman asked the Mimika Regional Government to arrange it well for whoever is entitled to receive the assistance. In addition to ship assistance, he said, KKP will also assist the construction of an ice factory for the freezing needs of fish to remain durable or not be easily damaged.
.
In a meeting with the Mimika District Fisheries Office, the local government expected the support of the KKP to provide cool box assistance to the local fishermen.
.
"Some time ago we have helped procure 200 tons of cold storage capacity and 6 tons of ABF at the Pomako Timika PPI," Suherman explained. Meanwhile, regarding the application of 200 units of cool box, it will be verified again.
In addition, the Pomako Timika PPI facility will continue to be improved so that the area becomes the center of the fishing industry in the Mimika region. The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries will also assist with landfill and land clearing around the PPI Pomako area, the addition of special floating piers to be occupied by local fishermen and the construction of large piers to be realized starting in 2021.
.
"For the construction of a large pier, the most important thing is that there must be a design plan so that it can be done starting next year," he said. The Head of the Mimika Fisheries Service, Leentje AA Siwabessy, said that the Pomako PPI facility which includes the Fish Auction Place (TPI) will continue to be equipped.
.
Some time ago the Mimika Regent Eltinus Omaleng had signed a memorandum of understanding with the President Director of PT Perusahaan Nusantara (Perinus) in Jakarta to lease cold storage facilities or fish freezing facilities at PPI Pomako.
.
According to him, PT Perinus will test the utilization of fish freezing facilities in PPI Pomako by accommodating all fish caught by local fishermen to be marketed outside of Papua, including for overseas export purposes.
