Mimika Is Ready to Become the Host of the PON Papua Organizer

The Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendi assessed that the Mimika Regency is the most ready of several cities in Papua as the host of the PON XX in October-November.

"In general it is ready, especially Timika. I see that it is almost 100 percent for the arena. I have not reviewed the accommodation, but I am sure it is ready here," Muhadjir said in Timika on Saturday.

Muhadjir Effendi accompanied by Deputy Chairman I KONI Central Maj. Gen. (Retired) TNI Suwarno and Papua Province Regional Secretary TA Hery Dosinaen reviewed a number of facilities that would later become venues for the PON XX Papua match.

The facilities reviewed by the Coordinating Minister for PMK include Mimika Sport Complex which is an arena for athletics and basketball competitions located in Timika Jaya District SP2, facing the Mitra Masyarakat Hospital / Timika Hospital.

Next, the Coordinating Minister for PMK together with the group visited the Futsal Sports Hall on the Timika-SP5 axis road. The facility will later be used as a futsal and handball arena. Muhadjir had previously visited Merauke and Jayapura City and Jayapura Regency.

"We pray that everything will be safe. Please also help with soothing news about Papua so that not only athletes will come, but also the cheerleaders (supporters) can come in throng to Papua, not only to Timika, but also "to Jayapura and Merauke," Muhadjir said.

The number of sports that will be contested in PON XX Papua next October-November there are 37 sports, nine of which will be competed in Timika, namely athletics, basketball, futsal, handball, judo, degree fighting, rock climbing, billiards, aero modeling, flying overpass, and skydiving.
