Mimika Regency Government Discourages the Use of Plastic Bags

Mimika Regency Government's efforts, Papua Province, in combating waste continue to be done in order to organize the city to be clean, beautiful and free of garbage. One of them is by banning the use of plastic bags in shopping centers.
.
Related to the discourse is being pursued by the Mimika Environment Agency (DLH) through a Regional Regulation (Perda). "We are still in the stage of socializing, designing the Perda," said the Head of the Mimika DLH Office, Limi Mokodompit.
.
Limi admitted that they were still discussing internally. Including socializing to the community. So to be discussed together with the Regional Representative Council (DPRD) Mimika has not led there.
.
"We are still collecting references for that. Because before the Regional Regulation is implemented, the community must be prepared first. For that reason, socialization is also very important," he explained. According to Limi, this year the party plans to gather all business actors, such as shops, mini markets and others.
.
This is done to find solutions to replace plastic bags after the ban on the use of plastic bags. "Our plan for 2020 is that we want to gather them, business people and the community to convey, so that when the regulation is enacted, all parties are ready and accepting," he said.
.
"I do not know whether it is obligatory for buyers to bring their own bags, or whether we replace the bag with an environmentally friendly bag, we will see later," Limi added.
