Papua Health Office Focuses on Handling Stunting

The Papua Provincial Health Office focuses on handling stunting to ensure that children born are not stunted. The focus of stunting was encouraged in the context of the Commemoration of the National Nutrition Day celebrated by the Indonesian nation every January 25.
.
"Our focus is stunting, which is how to strive for children born that are not dwarfed, the process is indeed a long process," said Secretary of the Papua Health Service, Dr. Silvanus Sumule in Jayapura, Thursday.
.
Stunting is a condition of growth failure in children (body and brain growth) due to malnutrition for a long time. Silvanus said, the process began from the time he reproduced, how this child was prepared to get married at the time of marriage and pregnancy was good nutrition.
.
He admitted, now it is his focus to stunting in several districts that are considered necessary for his children to be noticed. Examples of good experiences in Tolikara, where all pregnant women get extra food, their pregnancy continues to be examined, then during the delivery process there are health workers on duty.
.
Then, continued Dr. Silvanus, if there were problems then they were referred. There are also certain districts that have succeeded, but nationally, there is still much homework to be done regarding stunting.
.
"But in terms of our big concept, the Papuan golden generation. So the Papuan golden generation is one component of how to prepare pregnant women to give birth," he said. After that, he added, there is early childhood education (PAUD), elementary school, until education in tertiary education, the child lives in school.
