Papuan Teachers Build Education Start Ups
Papuan Teachers Build Education Start Ups |
Hi, I'm Sigit Arifianto, Founder Lister - PT Aegis Digital Indonesia - Two-Way Online Language Training Platform.
.
In 2016 I taught in the interior of Papua for one year. From there arose my love for education. Then the situation forced me to change from a teacher to an entrepreneur in Jakarta.
.
During my time as a teacher, I always instilled dreams for children to continue their education abroad, then returned to bring knowledge to build Indonesia. But then I realized there was a very wide education gap between regions and big cities in Indonesia.
.
Considering my background is an overseas child from a small sub-district in Bengkulu, for us residents in the area studying abroad are only a dream simply because there is no access to it.
.
So I founded PT Aegis Digital Indonesia (Lister.id). An online course platform that is easily accessible and affordable to help young Indonesians achieve their dream of studying abroad
.
Together with Lister we strive to digitize the language learning process, create interactive learning content & at the same time provide free overseas scholarship guidance
.
So if you have a dream of studying abroad or are interested in joining us to make your dream come true so that more Indonesian children can study abroad, let's be part of the Lister.
.
Previously, Papua had become my dream land. Land that I must go to one day. For the sake of realizing that dream, in 2016 I left my career at one of the multinational financial companies in Jakarta to become a volunteer teacher for one year in the Interior of Papua
.
I had the opportunity to teach in the direct border area of Indonesia with the country of Papua New Guinea. I was precisely teaching at the Pepera Inpres Elementary School located in Abitpasik Village, Pepera District. Since Papua's special autonomy has used the term village as a substitute for villages and districts for sub-districts
.
Abitpasik village is a village in the middle of the mountains of Jayawijaya, my village has no electricity & no signal. Our staple food is sweet potatoes & taro. Most residents work as farmers. The residents of my village are all indigenous Papuans & only a few people can speak Indonesian. Citizens are very kind and tolerant
.
My presence in Papua is none other than humanitarian intentions. There is nothing I want except to see Papuans progress. It is always imagined by me in the future, a peaceful Papua with an educated future generation. For one year I served on the border of the earth of paradise, filling my days by teaching the children of the land
.
Little by little I began to understand many things that had always been the question, especially the reasons why Papua was left behind. It turned out that Tanah Papua has special features so a culture approach is needed so that development and education can work. Little by little Papua also changed my way of life.
.
And the story of my small steps to reach that dream and my efforts to understand Papua's life & uniqueness, let me try to share it through social media so that more people know and care about Papua.
.
