PON 2020 Papua Declared Ready and Safe

The Papua PON XX Grand Committee assured that Papua is ready to hold a national sports party this year. The Papuan people also support and will maintain security during the PON.

Chairperson of the Papua XX National Sports Week (PB PON) Committee, Yunus Wonda, stressed that the security conditions in Papua were conducive to carrying out the event. His party has mobilized the community in cooperation with the security forces.

"To all sports lovers throughout Indonesia, if there is now an issue of Papua like this, Papua like that, that's not true. Papua will be the host, all Papuans will support and secure PON 2020 together with TNI / Polri officers. We will prove that Papua is safe , "said Yunus.

Minister of Youth and Sports Zainudin Amali explained that the PON Executive Board continued to prepare for the venue and needs of the 2020 National Sports Week 2020 which will be held in October in Papua.

"The point is that there are no more issues that are too crucial and worrying, and friends from the Papua Provincial government have given assurances before President Joko Widodo that the implementation of the PON will take place well hopefully successful and conditions will be conducive," Zainudin said in President's Office, Jakarta on Friday.

According to him, the construction of the PON venue in Papua is targeted for completion in March 2020. While the work carried out by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing is targeted to be completed in July 2020.

Meanwhile, Deputy Governor of Papua Klemen Tinal said the problem was not too complicated. "The obstacles we face, we only lack 88 mattresses for beds in Merauke. Because this PON will be implemented in five clusters; Jayapura, Jayapura City, Timika Mimika Regency, and Merauke," Klemen said.
