To restore the glory of the Cocoa commodity in Jayapura Regency, the Jayapura Regency Government through the Plantation and Animal Husbandry Office held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) for the Development of People's Economy through Cocoa Commodities on January 13, 2020.

"This forum must be proven that Papua can create pride in its region with a superior community," Jayapura Regent Mathius Awoitauw told the FGD of People's Economic Development through Cocoa Commodities.

According to him, the development of Cocoa in the community will be concentrated in the three and four development areas of Jayapura Regency, where the area could become a great potential. He hopes that the provincial and Jayapura regency governments and other regencies can work together to improve cocoa commodities.

"Jayapura Regency is under construction, only 45 percent of the 750 square kilometer area, while others are still forested. So this is a huge potential, reaching 70 percent can develop cocoa in Jayapura Regency, "he said.

Cocoa farms and their lands currently belong to indigenous peoples, therefore the community must be the owner / agent in improving the community's economy. "In the future this can be a center for nurseries in Papua, road nurseries, then, the production of roads, can also be their respective groups, so that the community has an industry, the government only facilitates," he added.

Chairman of the Gemebs Village Cocoa Farmers Group in the Nimboran District Yahanes Waricu claimed their business had experienced ups and downs in recent years. "At present we are reviving (pioneering) the development of kako with the support of village funds. (Regional) Grimenawa Valley is the best cocoa producer in Jayapura Regency, "said Waricu.
