Papuan Voices Trying to Knit Papua's Culture Back

The Papuan Voices Association held the Papuan Film Festival (FFP) IV to re-knit Papuan culture for justice and peace, which will culminate in Wamena, Jayawijaya Regency, on 6-9 August 2020.
.
"The Papua IV Film Festival will be filled with a series of activities carried out in various eastern regions and the peak will be filled with film screenings on 6-9 August 2020," said one of the FFP committees Rizal Lany, confirmed from Makassar, Saturday (8 / 2/2020).
.
The series of activities in the framework of the Papua Film Festival are documentary film workshops, film production, film competitions, film screenings and discussions. The film festival knits culture because Papuan culture is very rich.
.
There are 312 tribes who inhabit Papua with various cultures. However, Papuan culture is often seen as backward in the face of modernization which is increasingly intensified by the presence of technology and information. As a result, Papuan culture is increasingly abandoned even by Papuans themselves.
.
Leaving culture means leaving the roots of people's lives. Various local wisdoms that became the guideline of the life of the Papuan people for many years were left behind. The impact runs through the lives of the Papuan people themselves and their relationships with other people who come to Papua.
.
Therefore, according to him, knowing and understanding Papuan culture is very important. Justice and Peace which is always a problem in Papua will never be achieved if the existing policies ignore the local culture or even make the culture removed.
.
On that basis, he said, the Papuan Voices Association as an institution engaged in audio-visual media, especially Documentary Films in the Land of Papua felt the need to encourage all parties, Papuan youths to re-knit the existing Papuan culture and begin to get rid of it through documentary film media. This is to become a common basis for efforts to develop a just and peaceful Papua.

Another FFP committee member, Bernard Content said, Papuan Voices is a Papuan Maker Film Association formed in 2011. The formation of the Papuan Voices Association began with a documentary production training program created by Engage Media in collaboration with the Papuan Franciscan SKPKC, the SKP Archdiocese of Merauke and JPIC MSC in Merauke. The trainees then united themselves in a film community called Papuan Voices.
