Regional Office of Perum Bulog Papua and West Papua in the 2019 planting season bought 40,646 tons of rice from Merauke farmers.
.
"It is true that the rice purchased did not meet the target of 48,747 tons or only reached 83 percent," Head of the Papua and West Papua Regional Logistics Agency Office Sopran Kenedy told Antara in Jayapura on Wednesday.
.
He said the rice purchase target was not fulfilled due to several factors including the limitations of Bulog's storage warehouse and the quality of rice produced by farmers.
.
From the reports received, he said, the quality of the rice was rather low because of the many faults and high water content.
.
In addition, he continued, it is feared that if accommodating in large quantities will experience difficulties in terms of distribution.
.
The former Gorontalo Kabulog claimed that Merauke farmers' rice production was more for consumption in the Southern region of Papua such as Boven Digul, Mappi and Asmat Districts as well as the needs in Merauke itself.
