Ma'ruf Amin: PON 2020 Papua May Be Postponed If Corona Still Becomes a Threat

PON 2020 will be held on 20 October. But in the midst of the corona virus outbreak, it is still uncertain whether the implementation of the PON can go on schedule or it will be postponed.

Vice President Ma'ruf Amin said the government was still continuing to observe the situation and the development of the corona outbreak in Indonesia. If it hasn't died down yet, it's likely that the government will delay the implementation of the PON.

"The PON will continue to be observed. If later the corona is still not lost, meaning that it is still a threat, it will definitely be postponed. The Olympics just like in Japan have been postponed," Ma'ruf said.

"If indeed the corona threat situation is still threatening, including in Papua (it will be postponed)," he continued.

Previously, the Directorate General of Air Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation decided to close airports in Papua in anticipation of the spread of the corona virus.

This decision was the result of the agreement of the Papua Provincial Government in Letter Number 440/3812 / SET related to the Prevention, Control and Control of Coronavirus Disease in Papua Province, which was issued on March 24th.

"The airport as the entrance to the Papua region was declared closed for passenger flights from March 26, 2020 at 00.00 Central Indonesian Time to April 9, 2020 at 24.00 Central Indonesian Time," said Head of the Regional X Airport Authority Office, Usman Effendi, Thursday (3/26).
