Starbucks Opens Two Stores in Papua This Year
Starbucks Opens Two Stores in Papua This Year |
The US-based coffee network company, Starbucks, is rumored to be opening two outlets in Papua in August 2020. The plan is to be built at Diana Mall, Timika and Jayapura Mall, Papua City.
.
PT Sari Coffee Indonesia CEO Anthony Cottan said the opening of the Starbucks outlet was at the same time to welcome the celebration of the National Sports Week which was held in Papua in October.
.
"This also marks the expansion of Starbucks business to the 33rd and 34th cities in Indonesia," he said.
.
Anthony confirmed, the company had signed a memorandum of understanding with Diana Mall and Jayapura Mall. The signing of the agreement was witnessed by a number of state officials on the sidelines of the Green Investment forum for Papua and West Papua.
.
Anthony said, besides wanting to provide opportunities for customers in Papua to feel the sensation of Starbucks processed coffee, the company wanted to provide jobs. He further stated that he intends to increase public awareness of coffee management in order to add value to coffee.
.
"We also want to show support and determination to the government to accelerate development in Papua," he said.
.
Representative from Jayapura Mall who was present at the signing of the cooperation, Johannes Willem Makatita, stated similar things. He said the presence of this coffee shop would answer the public's request.
.
Starbucks interest in investing in Papua has previously been expressed by Luhut Pandjaitan. Starbucks, said Luhut, became one of the companies that had expressed interest.
.
"Many (who will enter) products such as Starbuck and coffee-food and beverage companies, kokoan all kinds," Luhut said in his office, Friday, February 28 last.
.
Luhut has indeed mapped green investments in Papua, namely investments based on the plantation and maritime sectors. The commodities targeted for development in the two provinces are coffee, nutmeg and chocolate.
.
Luhut ensured the government would not open oil palm plantations there like in Kalimantan or Sumatra. The mapping of green investment in Papua and West Papua has been put together by Luhut along with a number of ministers in Sorong, for some time.
.
The government's plan to design an environmentally friendly investment is carried out to achieve a green economy by 2050. This effort is in line with Indonesia's commitment to sign the Paris Agreement or the Paris Agreement as a member of the G20.
.
This green investment opportunity will be opened to all groups of businesses, from MSMEs to entrepreneurs with jumbo capital. The investment will also be offered to foreign and domestic investors.
