The Indonesian government will not take military action to overcome armed conflict in Papua |
The Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security, Mahfud MD, believes that the Indonesian government actually easily wins against armed groups in Papua if it uses military force.
.
"Facing separatists, for example in Papua or whatever separatism from within, that is, from the calculations of military strength, from the calculations of the strength of our security forces, it is easy for us to win, the calculations yes," said Mahfud in West Jakarta , Wednesday (11/3/2020).
.
"Put it yesterday counted about 270 people, that's all, let's say we have hundreds of thousands of personnel and we can be constitutionally open, not secretly resolving it, it's easy," he said.
.
However, the government, according to Mahfud, decided not to use a military approach but rather a welfare approach. Mahfud knew that the military approach would only settle for a while but then foster a new resistance.
.
"From the point of view of guerrilla science, it doesn't solve the problem. It can be resolved today, another friend who will be there, his child there will appear again, "said Mahfud.
.
Mahfud admitted, there were also those who questioned why the government did not only carry out measurable actions on armed groups. He only explained again, the welfare approach was more dignified in this matter.
.
"The welfare approach will better protect our dignity and the dignity of the people we face," said Mahfud.
