Head of Jayapura SMANKOR, Yan Ayomi, said that since the establishment of Buper State Special Sports (SMANKOR) High School in Waena in 2013, this special sports school seemed to have hidden information from the public in Papua.

"Papua used to have athletes who excel very much from local, national to international in all fields, and we need to acknowledge that," Ayomi said.

He said SMANKOR began to raise young Papuan athletes who excel from the bottom so that they become professional athletes in their respective fields.

"Here we prioritize 70 percent of practices with existing altlit facilities, and 30 percent of material. SMANKOR is ready to foster talented children in the field of sports, so with this year's new breakthrough we will write to regions to send students to be educated, "he said.

So far the Jayapura SMANKOR has scored many achievements in various sports fields through athletes educated at SMANKOR, which make the name of Papua and Indonesia national and international.

Meanwhile, Rafael Dimara, a former boxing athlete, said that Jayapura's SMANKOR began actively fostering students to focus more on improving athletes according to the sport.

"Papua must foster students from the start, not contracting athletes from outside on behalf of Papua to compete," he said.

SMANKOR began to look for athletes seeds to be fostered and this year continues to be carried out with activities looking for seeds by making the Amateur Boxing SMANKOR Cup I tournament that is currently underway.

"With the hope that we are looking for seeds, then we will develop these seeds to become professionals, not just to show instructions and contract athletes from outside Papua representing Papua," he said.
