The Central Government through the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) accelerates the improvement and equitable distribution of education in Papua and West Papua. Some of the programs that will be focused include the provision of a one-roof school with a dormitory pattern to increase school participation.

In addition, within five years, the government has built 34 Junior High Schools (SMP) with a dormitory pattern adapted to the geographical conditions of each region.

"The intervention in providing schools in remote areas is a priority. Especially we also prioritize connectivity for schools that do not have electricity and internet networks. We will try to finish this year," said the Staff of the Minister of Education and Culture for Central and Regional Relations, James Modouw .

Minister of Education and Culture Muhadjir Effendy inaugurated the Secretariat for the Acceleration of Papua and West Papua Education Development at the Office of the Papua Quality Assurance Agency (LPMP), in Kota Raja, Jayapura, Papua, Monday (23/9). The formation of this ad hoc team is important to accelerate the improvement and even distribution of quality of education in the two regions. In general, the two big tasks carried out by the accelerated education development team in the two regions are coordination and facilitation.

"We do central coaching to the provinces. Then facilitate the provinces to develop districts / cities in accordance with the PP on Guidance and Supervision," he said.

Then the application of the Papua and West Papua contextual curriculum is arranged based on local content and also regional languages ​​that can help teaching and learning activities.

There is a curriculum for hunter and gatherer communities, a curriculum for rural communities, and a curriculum for urban communities. Strengthening in the form of technical guidance for implementation and assistance will continue.

Facilitation of access to education for marginalized groups is also continued by the central government. James gave an example, currently support is provided through the Secondary Education Affirmation Scholarship (ADEM) and the Indonesia Smart Card to the sons of Papua and West Papua.

In addition to the local government, the Ministry of Education and Culture is also open to facilitating public support to advance education in Papua and West Papua. As done by NGOs, foundations, and various partnership programs.

Minister of Education and Culture Muhadjir Effendy stated that a special and unusual approach was needed to accelerate the improvement and equitable distribution of education in Papua and West Papua. One of the team's tasks is to coordinate and facilitate district / city governments as managers of basic education, early childhood education, and non-formal education.

The Minister of Education and Culture emphasized that the team's performance must be measurable and have clear targets. In addition, the team formed based on Minister of Education and Culture Decree No. 342 / P / 2019 must also be able to map regions that are truly left behind.
