Jaypura Regency Government Encourages Fisheries Business

The Jayapura Regency Government, Papua Province, is encouraging a freshwater fisheries sector in Lake Sentani in the midst of the COVID-19 epidemic

Jayapura Regent Mathius Awoitauw at Sentani said he hoped the freshwater fisheries business sector in Lake Sentani would continue to develop amid the COVID-19 pandemic in the district.

"The government continues to encourage fisheries sector efforts to continue producing during this pandemic," he said.

He said, he had instructed the relevant technical agencies, in this case the Jayapura Regency Fisheries and Maritime Services, to take steps related to support for fish farmers to stay afloat amid the new type of corona virus pandemic.

"I have ordered the Head of the Jayapura Regency Fisheries and Maritime Services Office to keep producing the fisheries sector," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Jayapura Regency Fisheries and Maritime Affairs Ir. Rudi Saragih said, his party had prepared production assistance for fish farmers in Lake Sentani, during the pandemic.

Rudi admitted, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there was now a scarcity of fish feed. Prices are also creeping up, making it difficult for fish farmers on Lake Sentani to develop businesses.

"Later we will prepare nursery feed assistance so that they continue to produce and this is in accordance with the direction of the Jayapura Regent," he said.
