PLN Prepares 115 Megawatts of New Electricity for Papua Province
PT PLN (Persero) has prepared 115 MW of new electricity
supplies for Papua Province. One that is already operating is the 10 MW
megawatt (MW) Gas Engine Power Plant or PLTMG MPP Timika.
PLN, Sulawesi, Maluku, Papua and Nusa Tenggara Regional
Business Director PT PLN Syamsul Huda, said that in the midst of the Covid-19
pandemic, his party had added a new power plant in Papua after the Timika PLTMG
located in Kampung Pomako, East Mimika District, Mimika Regency began
operations.
In addition to the Timika MPP PLTMG, the new plants being
prepared are Jayapura Peaker PLTMG (40 MW), Biak Satu PLTMG (15 MW), Biak Dua
PLTMG (10 MW), Merauke Satu PLTMG (20 MW), and Merauke Dua PLTMG (20 MW) ).
"The operation of the Timika PLTMG increases the supply
of electricity in the Mimika Regency from 24.5 MW to 34.5 MW," he said,
Wednesday (9/7).
According to Syamsul, in addition to supplying electricity
to the community and encouraging economic growth in Papua, the plant was
initially also to support the XX National Sports Week (PON) which is planned to
be held in October 2020 in Mimika Regency. However, the PON title was finally
postponed to October 2021 due to Covid-19.
"But according to our commitments, we will continue to
complete the construction of this plant on time," he said.
He explained that Timika PLTMG won an Operation Eligible
Certificate (SLO) for its generator engine on May 5, 2020. The PLTMG work took
about 22 months, starting from July 2018 to 2020.
