The Papua Special Autonomy Fund is Corrupted by the Elite, the People Don't Get Rid of it

The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD admitted that there was corruption committed by the elite in Papua against the Special Autonomy Fund (Otsus).
His party is also looking for a formula regarding the best regulation so that the Special Autonomy Fund, which is planned to be increased next year, can be felt by the Papuan people as a whole.

"Because the funds for Papua are huge, but the elite is corrupted there. The people do not get it. We will arrange how," said Mahfud.

Mahfud explained that currently the government is preparing a Presidential Decree (Kepres) relating to development in Papua with a welfare approach.

Not only the Presidential Decree, the government is also working on the revision of Law Number 21 of 2001 on Papua's Special Autonomy. The revision covers two things, namely relating to the amount of special autonomy funds to be distributed and regarding the expansion of the province in Papua.

"Enlargement or extension of the provision of special autonomy funds from the original two percent to 2.25 percent. The revision of the law is in the near future," he said.

Regarding the division of the province in Papua itself, there are several considerations that are being considered by the government. Mahfud said one of them was related to the large area of ​​Papua.

"Later, the division will be carried out, all of which will begin to work as soon as possible according to the procedure. The goal of all welfare for indigenous Papuans (OAP). That is the government's attitude, government policy," he said.

It is known that a number of corruption cases have already been convicted by judges or are still in the stage of investigation and investigation.

For example, the alleged corruption in the construction project of the Kingmi Mile 32 Church, Mimika, Papua, which is being handled by the KPK. A number of local officials were questioned as witnesses.

In addition, there was a corruption case in the project procurement project for Jalan Kemiri-Depapre, Jayapura Regency, Papua, where the convict was former head of the Papua Public Works Office, Mikael Kambuaya.

He was found legally and convincingly guilty and sentenced to 5 years and 6 months in prison.
