Papua Provincial Government Releases Data of Otsus Scholarship Graduates




The Papua Provincial Government (Pemprov) has released a total of 1051 Papuan students and students participating in the Special Autonomy Affirmation Scholarship Program from 2009 to 2020.

More than a thousand Papuan students have graduated from various universities at home and abroad.

"I represent the Governor and the Deputy Governor to convey information on the implementation and achievements of the Papua Provincial Government in programs to improve the quality of human resources and character development for Indigenous Papuans carried out by the Papua Province BPSDM to the indigenous people. When added together, the total number of domestic and foreign graduates from the Papua Special Autonomy scholarship program is 1051 people, "said the Regional Secretary of Papua Province, Doren Wakerkwa, SH in Jayapura, as quoted from Papua.go.id.

The Regional Secretary, accompanied by the Head of the Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM) Aryoko AF Rumaropen and the Head of the Governance Bureau, Jimmy S Wanimbo, stated that the participants of the Special Autonomy Affirmation Scholarship Program are still continuing. And currently there are 1236 students from Papua who are actively studying at domestic and foreign universities, which are funded by Special Autonomy funds.

The Regional Secretary also said that another achievement of the Papua Provincial Government's performance was the cooperation of education abroad with the University of Rhode Island in the United States during the Covid-19 pandemic in the form of assistance of 70 ventilator units which were distributed to various hospitals in Papua Province.

"Other collaborative achievements are related to the Covid-19 pandemic, so the University of Rhode Island in the United States as an Educational Institution Partner has provided 70 units of grants in the form of ventilator devices for the Papua Provincial Government and has been received and distributed for use in hospitals throughout Papua Province for the handling of Covid-19 patients, "explained the Wakerkwa Regional Secretary.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Papua Province BPSDM, Aryoko AF Rumaropen added that foreign and domestic graduate students who are funded by the Special Autonomy Affirmation Scholarship program have worked and served in various government and private agencies.

"For example, our student graduates at the Land Agency office and other government and private offices in Papua, outside Papua and even abroad," added Aryoko Rumaropen.
