Sea Toll Routes Facilitate the Distribution of Goods to Eastern Indonesia
The Indonesian Transportation Society (MTI) considers the addition of new sea highway routes in the eastern part of Indonesia to be very good. This is because the expansion of the route is needed for the delivery of goods so that it has an impact on the ease of distribution.
The head of the MTI Marine Transportation Forum, Leny Maryouri, hopes that this additional route is indeed in the location needed by the community to transport or deliver goods as needed.
"The addition of routes must also consider the number and types of commodities or goods needed and produced by the community," he said
According to Leny, if the route makes it easier for ships to arrive with goods needed by the community and go with agricultural products or production from local residents, it can help open a sustainable supply and demand system. Not the other way around, ships arrive with goods but leave empty, so that only the operator of the cargo ship will enjoy the subsidy.
"That way the sea highway subsidy can also be received by the wider community and a reduction in the disparity of goods will be achieved," he added.
Previously, in order to support the distribution of goods and economic development in remote and underdeveloped areas, the Ministry of Transportation, through the Directorate General of Sea Transportation, continued to optimize and accelerate the maritime highway program by adding new routes in eastern Indonesia.
Director of Traffic and Sea Transportation Antoni Arif Priyadi revealed that so far the Eastern Indonesia region is well known for its high price disparities due to the high cost of logistics distribution from producing areas to these areas.
Antoni said the maritime highway program was present with the aim of reducing logistics costs so that the prices received by the community as end users were not too expensive and create connectivity between regions.
