Sri Mulyani suggested that the Papua Special Autonomy fund be extended for 20 years

Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati has proposed to extend the Papua special autonomy (autonomy) fund for the next 20 years and increase its budget. The estimated total special autonomy fund for the next 20 years is around Rp. 234.6 trillion, twice as large as the total autonomy fund for Papua in the last two decades, which is Rp. 101.2 trillion.

"The issue of funding, we propose several revisions in Law 21 of 2001. Even though the results are not optimal, we still support the special autonomy fund to be extended for another 20 years and even increase its value, which so far has been 2% of the DAU, we will increase it 2.25%. because the gap is still not closed, "said the Minister of Finance at the Committee I Working Meeting of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) RI.

The increase in the special autonomy budget is expected to have an impact on improved governance. In addition, the distribution of special autonomy will use a performance-based block grant and earmark funding scheme.

"This is the goal so that every rupiah of autonomy is truly related to the results. And there is also a need for additional dividers between provinces, as well as stronger and more reliable guidance and supervision of the use of special autonomy funds, "said the Minister.

In his presentation, the Minister of Finance explained, improving the governance of the special autonomy fund can be done by compiling a government regulation (PP) that specifically regulates this matter.

The hope is that the various system weaknesses that have occurred during the last 20 years can be corrected and the community can directly monitor the use of the special autonomy fund with a better system.

"Learning from our weaknesses in implementing Otsus in the last 20 years, of course we hope that in the end we will truly achieve our goals and enthusiasm, the spirit of Otsus itself, which is to truly prosper the Papuan people and catch up with gaps or disadvantages. This of course requires better governance and accountability and a firmer regulation is needed, "said the Minister.
