Papuan softball and baseball arena, different and the best in Southeast Asia

Softball and baseball arenas are included in the 9 venues that were inaugurated by the Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe, on October 23, 2020. These two venues are claimed to be the best in Indonesia and even in Southeast Asia.

Venue competing for one of the sports disciplines (sports) for softball and baseball games at the XX National Sports Week (PON) in October, built in packages in two different locations, namely on land belonging to Cenderawasih University (Uncen) Waena, Jayapura City and in the Silas Air Base area. The August Kafiar softball and baseball arena in the Uncen complex is only used to hold preliminary round matches, while the Manuhua softball field and Marthen Indey baseball field at the Air Force Sentani complex are used for the final round.

The two venues prepared for the two twin sports began in early 2019 by the contractor PT Nindya Karya (NK). The work was delayed due to a change in location, from the original plan to be built on the land of the Autonomous Office, Kotaraja.

Likewise, when Jayapura Regency was hit by flash floods, the mobilization of materials to the venue was interrupted.

"There are many obstacles, the initial location is not there. Several times we have moved locations and wasted our energy and we have already brought hundreds of workers and we all get paid without working. If the weather factor is disturbed by the material mobilization during the Sentani flash flood, "said PT Nindya Karya (Persero) Site Engineer Manager, Sophian Badollahi, to the Jubi crew recently.

It is not only the location and weather factors that interfere with the construction process of the softball and baseball venues. At the Air Force, the construction of the venue had to be delayed for some time because in its location there were many explosives left over from World War II.

"When we excavated in the Air Force area workers found several mortars and explosives so that the work was temporarily stopped, sterilization was continued by the Papua Police Mobile Brigade Jihandak team and a team of experts until it was deemed safe, then we would continue the work again," he said.

In addition, there have also been several design changes. Which, his first design was deemed not up to standard.

"The design has changed several times because the initial one was deemed by PB Perbasasi and the Technical Delegate (TD) or the technical delegation not meeting the requirements, because there was no medical room, disabled access, media room, equipment warehouse, and several others," he said in detail.

By involving 200 workers consisting of 50 percent local workers, the two venues located in two areas with an area of ​​6 hectares each were finally completed in October 2020.

The construction of the Manuhua softball field and Marthen Indey baseball field as well as the Agust Kafiar softball and baseball field cost IDR167.677 billion from the 2019 APBD.

Softball and baseball arenas in the AURI and Uncen complex are said to be the most complete venues compared to similar venues in Indonesia. In fact, the Manuhua softball field and Marthen Indey baseball field in the Air Force are claimed to be the best in Southeast Asia.

In terms of facilities, it is very qualified. The grass used is also of high quality.

"In our opinion, the equipment at this venue is the most complete compared to similar venues in other regions in Indonesia. The grass really meets the standards, the type of Zoysia Javonica from Java. This is the first time it is used in Indonesia. And it is indeed recommended by PB Perbasasi, because it is in accordance with the weather climate in Papua, ”said Sophian.

For the capacity of the audience capacity, it can also be said that it is stadium standard and is no longer an ordinary field class. The tribune in the Air Force has a capacity of around 2000 spectators and the one in Uncen has a capacity of nearly 500 spectators. While the parking area can accommodate hundreds of four-wheeled and two-wheeled vehicles.

“The venue at the Air Force is arguably not called a field anymore but a stadium. Because the standard of completeness is complete. Prior to the test the event will be certified by the federation. When viewed from the building and field specifications, it is the best in Southeast Asia, ”he said.

The Manuhua softball field and Marthen Indey baseball field, apart from being complete, also have a feature that is not shared by similar venues in other regions in Indonesia.

If you are at this venue, the audience will be made at home with the beautiful panorama of the Cycloop mountain which lies towering over to spoil the eyes.

"This is the best field in Indonesia, the scenery is very beautiful, and is equipped with complete facilities," he said.

Currently, the two twin sports venues are in the maintenance stage handled by PT Nindya Karya until September 14th.

"In terms of construction based on the contract, it has been completed. We are currently maintaining the building and grass, until September 14th, after that we will submit it to Disorda for the implementation of PON XX. We handle the maintenance at the same time with indoor and outdoor shooting venues, ”he explained.
