Traditional Sentani Leaders Support Otsus and DOB
Sentani's traditional leader, Yanto Eluay fully supports the continuation of Special Autonomy (Otsus) and the Expansion of the New Autonomous Region (DOB) in Papua. Yanto Eluay said this in response to the actions carried out by various parties in Papua recently who rejected the continuation of Otsus and the expansion of the DOB.
When met at his residence in Kampung Sereh, Sentani City, Tuesday (09/03/2021) afternoon, he, as a traditional leader and leader of the customary law community in Sentani, Jayapura Regency, emphasized that in principle he has a responsibility or obligation for the welfare of the people.
"Therefore, we remain committed to supporting the continuation of Otsus because we see that Otsus is aimed at the welfare of the Papuan people," said Yanto Eluay.
Yanto, who is also the Chairperson of the P5 Papua, said some time ago the Papua provincial government had declared its support for Otsus and the expansion of a new province. Where this was conveyed directly by the Acting Secretary of Papua, Doren Wakerwa recently.
"So that on this occasion, we give our appreciation to the Papua Provincial Government and I think this is enough, no more groups, politicians, activists or intellectuals who act on behalf of the Papuan people to reject Otsus and DOB," he added.
Yanto emphasized that the continuation of Otsus and DOB was final. Yanto said, the Papuan people remained in a position to accept the continuation of Otsus and also the expansion of a new autonomous region.
According to him, the new division will automatically accelerate government services to the community. He hopes that expansion in Papua can be carried out based on customary territories. Why? So that all Papuan people from their respective customary territories are responsible for the progress of their customary territories.
"In order for a kind of positive competition to occur, our brothers from other regions will be motivated to organize and develop their customary territories, because that is their identity. "Therefore, for me this division is very good because we fellow Papuan children will compete, compete to advance our respective regions. This is very positive and needs support from all of us, "said Yanto.
Regarding the use of Otus funds, Yanto added that it all returns to our personal who manages the funds. "So what remains our calling in regulating and managing this fund properly so that its usefulness is really for improving the economic welfare of the people in the land of Papua," said Yanto Eluay.
