The Committee Proves Papua's Readiness to Host XX 2021 PON

The chairman of the Committee for the XX 2021 Papua National Sports Week (PON) Otniel Deda said his party would hold a "Gebyar PON" as proof of the readiness of the Papuan Provincial Government (Pemprov) to hold this activity.

"There will be socialization of Papua's readiness to host PON, archipelago celebrations and entertainment. Two national artists will be brought in, namely Kotak and Ras Muhammad," Otniel said.

In addition to the two, there will also be performances from art studios representing five traditional areas in Papua.

Otniel added that his party will also implement health protocols (prokes) in a disciplined manner according to World Health Organization (WHO) standards.

"We will carry out rapid antigens for the committee and performers. This is proof that we are serious about implementing the process," he said in a written statement received by Kompas.com, Thursday.

Through strict implementation of the prokes, the committee will broadcast live "Gebyar PON" through social media accounts belonging to the Papua PON Grand Committee.

TNiel also ensured that the Gebyar PON activity had obtained a ceramics permit from the Papua Regional Police with the condition that the implementation of the Prokes was correct and strict.

"We apologize that there will be road engineering to avoid crowds of people," he said.

Meanwhile, Gebyar PON is a series of activities ahead of the opening of PON from the PB PON Ceremony which will be held at the Papua Governor's Office Courtyard, Jayapura City, Saturday (19/6/2021).

In addition, similar activities will be carried out in Jayapura, Merauke, and Mimika regencies which are also the cluster for organizing XX 2021 PON.

"The celebrations in three districts will be held once a month to show the readiness of each cluster," he said.

Otniel added that the activity was carried out to show the readiness of the four PON clusters and as evidence that Papua as the host was ready to accept the arrival of contingents from 33 provinces throughout Indonesia.

The implementation of PON XX 2021 is planned to take place on October 2-15 2021 in Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, Mimika, and Merauke.

There will be 37 sports and ten exhibition branches that will be competed in XX PON.
