The Ministry of Transportation Will Provide Stimulus for Sea Toll Chargebacks

The Ministry of Transportation (Kemhub) will provide a stimulus in the form of a tariff cut for return loads of 50% of the tariff for cargo departing the sea toll. This effort is in the context of optimizing the return load of marine highway ships.

“We will provide a stimulus, for example giving a 50% discount from departing cargo. Because optimizing this backload not only balances the logistics financing system, it is also important to boost economic growth, especially in remote, outermost, underdeveloped and border areas (3TP)," said Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi.

Furthermore, the Minister of Transportation said that the Ministry of Transportation was actively trying to encourage local governments to optimize the return of sea toll ships. As a result, it has been found that several regions have many superior commodities for logistical supplies and even surplus food production. To that end, the Ministry of Transportation has added new sea toll routes in the provinces of Papua and West Papua.

“From Merauke, you can transport 20 containers of rice and one container of soy sauce. This cargo will be distributed throughout the provinces of Papua and West Papua. Then, the return cargo can carry 11 containers which are sent back to Merauke. This shows that the achievements of the sea highway program are getting better," said the Minister of Transportation.

In addition to adding routes or routes and ships, the Ministry of Transportation also integrates the sea highway program with the air bridge program so as to create good multimodal connectivity. That way, explained the Minister of Transportation, cargo transported by sea toll vessels is connected to the land side to the airport, and then flown to mountainous areas such as in the Oksibil area, Papua.

With this good connectivity, it is hoped that the price of goods in the Oksibil area will not be too far apart in price with goods in other regions in Indonesia.
