The XX National Sports Week (PON) in Papua will be an interesting sporting event. In addition to being held for the first time in Eastern Indonesia, the quadrennial sporting event at Bumi Cenderawasih is also supported by the presence of modern and international standard venues, so that it was awarded 3 awards from the Indonesian Record Museum (MURI).

As is known, Istora Papua Bangkit is equipped with modern technology for sound system, lighting, scoreboard, wind flow arrangement and building construction structure.

For convenience in the stadium, a textile duct installation or air distribution device made of textile materials with an internal ring of 477 meters and a diameter of 1.37 meters was made.

Istora Papua Bangkit was built on an area of ​​33,016 M2 in the Kampung Harapan area. The building area is 7,740 M2 with a capacity of 3,674 tribune seats/7000 spectators.

On June 10, in accordance with Presidential Instruction No. 4/2001, the Ministry of Home Affairs was represented by the Inspector General of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Tumpak H Simanjuntak and the Director General of Regional Financial Development, M. Ardian Novrianto, who facilitated the delivery of grants for 4 venues from PUPR to the Papua Provincial Government. Previously, the Minister of Home Affairs formed a Monitoring and Evaluation Team, chaired by Kastorius Sinaga.

The submission of grants in the form of match infrastructure venues, namely Istora, Aquatic Arena, Outdoor Hockey Arena and Cricket Arena which had been completed by the Ministry of PUPR was handed over to be managed by the Papua Provincial Government.

So far, the readiness to organize PON XX and Peparnas XVI can be said to be in accordance with the target, both in terms of the availability of venues for the 37 sports to be competed, in terms of budget and from other supporting infrastructure such as accommodation, transportation.

"According to the direction of the Minister of Home Affairs, we must directly monitor the readiness of the venue and facilitate this asset grant to the Provincial Government to be managed. The four main venues that have been completed and have been handed over to the Papua Provincial Government are ready to be used for the benefit of XX PON and the upcoming Heat," explained the Head of the Monitoring and Evaluation Team formed by the Minister of Home Affairs, Kastorius, Monday (16/8/2021).

XX Papua PON which will be held in the near future. PON XX is expected to be attended by 6,484 athletes from 34 provinces throughout Indonesia to participate in the four-yearly event. XX PON will compete in 37 sports, 56 sports disciplines, 679 match/race numbers, and 6,484 athlete quotas.

It is estimated that the total participants and equipment for the upcoming PON matches to Papua are 21,338 people. Of this number, they will be spread based on sports in each cluster, namely the Jayapura City cluster, Jayapura Regency cluster, Mimika and Merauke.
