Sub PB PON XX Jayapura Regency held PON coverage training

The Sub-Committee of the National Sports Week or PB PON XX Jayapura Regency held a Technical Training for Journalists Covering PON XX Papua in Sentani, the capital of Jayapura Regency, August 20-21, 2021. The training was attended by 70 journalists from the Regency and City of Jayapura as well as a number of the implementing committee.

The journalistic training provided basic knowledge about the 14 sports of PON XX Papua which will be contested and competed in Jayapura Regency. Journalists also learn how to cover competitions in these various sports.

The head of the organizing committee for the training, Paskalis Keagop, said that the training would equip journalists with the knowledge to cover the XX Papua PON. Journalists study various terms in each sport, so that journalists do not make a mistake in writing various terms in the sports that are reported on.
 
“The majority of local journalists have not [never] been involved in national events such as PON XX Papua. There are several sports that journalists regularly cover, such as football or volleyball. However, the term PON sports is very much, "said Keagop, Friday.

He explained that there are 14 PON sports that will be contested and competed in Jayapura Regency. In addition, there are 16 PON sports branches that will be contested and competed in Jayapura City.

The training, which was held by Sub PB PON XX, Jayapura Regency, presented coaches from various sports. The trainers also explained the target for the medals for the PON Papua contingent in the XX Papua PON.

"PON will be held during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is possible that many mass media offices outside Papua will not send their journalists to cover the XX Papua PON, including mass media abroad. If that happens, all mass media offices outside Papua will depend on the results of the coverage of local Papuan journalists, whether in the form of news, photos, or videos,” said Keagop.

General Chairperson of Sub-PB PON XX Jayapura Regency, Mathius Awoitauw in his speech stated that PON XX Papua will be successful and run well if journalists play their role in disseminating accurate information. "The public outside will know all the preparations up to the implementation of the national event thanks to the news conveyed through the [mass] media," said Awoitauw.

Awoitauw hopes that the training participants will produce the best journalistic products. He believes that local journalists in Jayapura Regency and Papua City will be able to compete with journalists from national and international media in covering the XX Papua PON.

“That precious moment only happened once in Papua. All people will remember it again through photo recordings and news that will be produced by skilled hands who are currently participating in the training,” he said.
