Support XX PON, Ministry of Transportation Sends 428 Bus Units to Papua

The ASDP Director of the Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation representing the Minister of Transportation (Menhub) released KMP Dharma Rucitra 1 from Tanjung Priok Port. The ship carried buses to support POX XX and Peparnas XVI Papua 2021.

Head of the Papua Province Transportation Service, Recky D Ambrauw, in his release stated that the vehicle assistance for the Merauke and Mimika Regency clusters was officially released by the Director General of Land Transportation in Tanjung Priok, Jakarta, Saturday (21/8).

Vehicle assistance for the Merauke Regency cluster consists of 30 units of medium buses and 15 units of micro buses. Meanwhile, the Timika Regency cluster received 42 units of medium buses and 25 units of micro buses.

"Bus for the Merauke and Mimika Regency clusters are transported using KMP Dharma Rucitra 1, it is estimated to arrive in Timika on August 29 and in Merauke on August 31, 2021," said Recky.

Bus deliveries will continue. On August 24, 2021, 316 buses will be dispatched for the Jayapura City and Regency clusters.

"The Ministry of Transportation has prepared 428 buses to support the XX PON and Papua National Parks," he said.

Before the Ministry of Transportation's assistance buses were sent to Papua, 217 of the 428 buses had been fitted with GPS (Global Positioning System) by the Papuan Ministry of Communication and Information Technology last July. This device is expected to be able to maximize land transportation services for athletes and officials, through an application system, when PON XX and Peparnas XVI are held.

Meanwhile, the Chair of the Papua PON XX Panwasrah Major General TNI (Ret.) Suwarno explained that his party had collaborated with a number of parties to enforce health protocols as an effort to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

"Panwasrah coordinated by urging all provincial KONIs, so that five days before departure to the XX Papua PON event, they had undergone quarantine in each province," explained Suwarno in a virtual talk show, early last August.

Suwarno added, before leaving for Papua, the participants, both officials, athletes, and coaches, must have done a PCR test first. A negative Covid-19 result is a mandatory requirement for participants.

The enforcement of health protocols is also applied to other parties, including the delivery of 428 buses, including drivers and technicians during the preparation for the XX Papua PON event.

"When they arrive at the location (Papua) they will provide services related to health protocols to prevent strict Covid-19 transmission," explained Suwarno.

If all of them meet the requirements, they are allowed to enter the accommodation to undergo quarantine so as not to have a lot of contact with others or with outsiders or people.

If the health protocols can be carried out properly, from preparation to implementation, until the end of PON XX Papua 2021, it is hoped that it will give a positive image to the local government in holding safe, comfortable, and healthy multi-events for the participants.
