Scholarships from the Ministry of Religion for 330 Papua-West Papuan Students

The Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) launched scholarships for 330 Papuan and West Papuan children. In detail, this assistance is intended for 280 students from State Christian Religious Colleges (PTKKN) and 50 students from public universities.
Deputy Minister of Religion (Wamenag) Zainut Tauhid Sa'adi said this scholarship program is a series of the 2021 Affirmation We Love Papua/Papua Proud Scholarship Program. The scholarship is an effort to provide support for the education and religious fields in Papua and West Papua Provinces.

"The core of the Kita Cinta Papua/Papua Proud program is to promote education and religion in the provinces of Papua and West Papua in the form of scholarship support for the younger generation so that they can receive continuous education at every level," said Zainut Tauhid in a written statement received by detikEdu, Wednesday 8/9/2021).

Director General of Christian Guidance at the Ministry of Religion, Thomas Pentury, revealed that the scholarship program from the Ministry of Religion has been running for two years. In the first period, it was successful in distributing aid to 253 students. Then, this year it increased to 330 students.

4. IAKN Toraja: 40 students
5. IAKN Kupang: 60 students
6. IAKN Ambon: 30 students
7. Cenderawasih University: 19 students
8. Indonesian Christian University Jakarta: 4 students
9. Bandung Adventist University: 4 students
10. Maranatha University Bandung: 2 students
11. Pelita Harapan University Karawaci Tangerang: 2 students
12. Duta Wacana University Yogyakarta: 3 students
13. Satya Wacana University Salatiga: 10 students
14. Petra University Surabaya: 3 students
15. Indonesian Christian University Ambon: 3 students.

This scholarship distribution program is in line with the policy of accelerating welfare development in Papua and West Papua Provinces in accordance with Presidential Regulation Number 18 of 2020 concerning the 2020-2024 RPJMN and Presidential Instruction Number 9 of 2020 concerning Acceleration of Welfare Development in Papua and West Papua Provinces.

In closing, Deputy Minister of Religion Zainut Tauhid advised all students to actively participate in realizing national change and work through this scholarship program. Scholarships must have a positive impact on the recipient's personal development and environment.

Zainut advised students to be creative, innovative, productive, and have character. Students must be able to produce creative works, think innovatively, be able to produce solutions, and have an identity, have noble character, and have morals.
