Inspiring Young Papuan Ways to Print Entrepreneurs

The number of young entrepreneurs and start-up companies (startup) in Papua Province is recognized as not as many as other regions, especially from the islands of Java and Sumatra.

Inspiring Young Papuan Manta Regional Coordinator (Korwil Manta), Elia Musa Rawar, said that one of the reasons for the lack of young entrepreneurs in Papua is the mindset (mindset) for example having a job as a member of the Indonesian National Army (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri). and Civil Servants (PNS).

"Many friends think about going to the TNI-Polri, PNS, while there are very few young people who have businesses," said the Inspirational Young Papuan Korwil when met by InfoPublik at the Papua-UMKM Coffee Festival in Jayapura City, in the framework of the Sports Week. National PON (PON) XX Papua in the Mesran Terminal area, Jayapura City, on Sunday (3/10/2021).

To overcome these obstacles, the Korwil Manta Papua Muda Inspiratif admitted to implementing a sharing strategy or sharing the experiences of success that have been achieved by young entrepreneurs.

Thus, Papuan youths are expected to be interested in becoming entrepreneurs who are able to develop various potentials in their place of residence.

"The challenge to change the mindset is to bring evidence of business success, so that's what we are trying to show Papuan youths that you don't have to be TNI-Polri and civil servants, but you can try yourself and make your own money," he added.

According to the Inspirational Young Papua Regional Coordinator for Manta, in recent years the number of young entrepreneurs and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Papua has grown quite a lot.

The reason is starting to increase business opportunities in the culinary sector such as cafes and snack products as well as the development of digital media that makes it easier to sell products online.

In addition, he said, from many agencies, institutions to State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) such as the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (Kemenkop UKM) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) have a coaching program.

“So from there, we collaborated with other agencies to collaborate with friends who are shy about asking questions or don't know how to grow their business. We will give advice. Friends who used to be in business, for example, had chips using plastic, we helped make the packaging better so that the public or the market would accept it," he explained.

He also said that his party is also fostering young Papuan entrepreneurs in terms of financial management, how to find investors, to making proposals and business plans.

To become a young entrepreneur assisted by Papua Muda Inspirational is considered very easy, that is, they only want to join, build the land of Papua and also want to understand each other, help each other.

“In Jayapura, we have around 200-300 young people assisted and partners. If they join we provide knowledge, but they have to invite other friends," he said.
