Lifting New Record-breaking Harvest at PON Papua

The weightlifting sport has recorded more new records than other sports such as athletics, diving and swimming at the XX Papua National Sports Week (PON).

From the Weightlifting arena which took place at the Auditorium of Cendrawasih University, Padang Bulan, Jayapura City, until now, three junior world records and 11 national records have been broken.

For the world record, the female lifter from West Java, Tsabita Alfiah R, was able to break the 67 kg class. Tsabita made a total lift of 212 kg, improving the old record in his own name set by Tashkent, Uzbekistan 2021, weighing 204 kg.

In the snacth lifter under the care of national coach Sodikin, he was able to make a 97 kg lift 5 kg heavier than his junior world record. Then in the clean and jerk class, Tsabita managed to lift a barbell of 115 kg, breaking his record of 114 kg.

While the 11 national records that were created were one of them through a lifter from South Sulawesi, Rahmad Erwin Abdullah, who fell in the 81 kg class. Rahmad, a bronze medalist at the Tokyo Olympics, was able to make a total of 340 kg, improving his senior M Hasbi record of 306 kg which was made in the 2019 pre-PON event.

Rahmad also managed to improve Hasbi's record for the snatch from 130 kg to 150 kg and the clean and jerk lift from the barbell weighing 176 kg to 190 kg.

Coach Rahmad, who is also Erwin Andullah's father, said he was satisfied with the results of his team's team in the PON Papua arena. "Even though he did not succeed in lifting the 200 kg lift, the results achieved were very satisfying because he was able to sharpen his force on the national stage," said Erwin Abdullah, who is also a former national lifter.

Erwin Abdullah is a silver medalist at the 2002 Asian Games in Busan, South Korea.

The female lifter from Aceh, Nurul Akmal, won a gold medal and set a new national record after collecting a total load of 258 kg. In the snatch, Nurul is able to lift a 116 kg barbell. This achievement broke a national record in his own name. Previously, there was a record force and 142 kg, in the XX Papua PON event, which took place at the Auditorium of the Cenderawasih University (Uncen) Jayapura, Saturday, October 9, 2021.

Dropping in the class above 87 kg with a weight of 116.55 kg, the female lifter who was born in Tanah Luas, North Aceh on March 12, 1993, did all six lifts smoothly. The six weights that Nurul performed were 101 kg, 107 kg, and 116 kg in the snatch. Meanwhile in the clean and jerk class, starting from 131 kg, 136 kg and ending with a load of 142 kg.

The total burden that Nurul lifted far left his opponents. Lifter Riska Oktaviana from West Kalimantan Province had to settle for a silver medal with a total force of 223 kg. Riska has the best lift at 116 kg and 123 kg.

The new record-breaking is still open in the Papua PON arena which competes in 23 sports in four clusters, Jayapura City/Regency, Mimika Regency and Merauke Regency. The greatest potential for record-breaking will occur in swimming and athletics.
