13 YEARS ESTABLISHED, FORMER ACTIVIST PREDICTIONS KNPB DESTRUCTION A FEW YEARS ON
KNPB as one of the movement organizations in Papua has recently received a lot of attention from a number of parties. One former Papuan activist who used to be a member of the KNPB has spoken out ahead of the organization's thirteenth anniversary.
Yondison Pabika said that it would be better if the KNPB Anniversary celebration did not need to be held because it was only a pseudo-ceremonial. He added that the thirteen years of the KNPB's existence have not really had an impact on the struggle. (18/11)
"Why do it if it is only ceremonial, I think that the celebration can indeed give encouragement to people in KNPB now, but that is not enough because what is needed is awareness and real action, what has been thirteen years now?"
Instead of becoming a more mature organization, KNPB is considered by Yondison as an organization that only works according to the wishes of its leaders. In fact, he prefers to say that the KNPB has experienced a period of ups and downs.
"Of course the KNPB period now and then is very different, what is seen now is actually a setback, because the KNPB with its big name has been filled by people who are no longer competent,"
According to him, the positions of high-ranking officials in the KNPB have been poisoned by the interests of certain groups, Yondison said that nepotism within the KNPB is a projection of the destruction of the organization in the next few years.
“If the organization on behalf of the Papuan people is filled by the people themselves, then the end goal will change. If things like this continue to happen, be prepared for the KNPB to be destroyed in the next few years,"
Asked about KNPB's abilities in the past, Yondison said that the current KNPB is only a gathering place for young people who are looking for fun.
"So today's young people just want to have fun, they feel great if they can join KNPB. If it is traced where the wrong factor is, then it goes back to their leaders. Their function should be to provide understanding, and things like that are not happening today."
