Indigenous Youth of Saireri Region Speak Up About Raising the Morning Star
The Indigenous Youth of the Saireri Region, Ali Kabiay, assessed that the raising or stretching of the Morning Star flag was irrelevant and violated the law.
This was conveyed in response to the raising of the Morning Star flag in front of GOR Cenderawasih Jayapura by eight youths on Wednesday (1/12/2021).
Ali emphasized that the struggle for Papuan independence by raising the flag every December 1 does not necessarily make Papua immediately independent.
"Because of this struggle, it is no longer relevant today and will certainly violate the law," said Ali through a press release, Thursday (2/12/2021).
According to him, the struggle for Papuan independence is no longer relevant today.
In global geopolitics, the struggle for Papuan independence has faded and has no place in the hearts of the international community.
"The world community in the Pacific Region, Europe, Asia and America is now more focused on managing the economy in droves to match the 3 superpowers, namely China, America and Russia," he explained.
Then, Ali continued, citizens of the world in this modern era are more focused on increasing health capacity to deal with various new variants of the Corona virus.
"So that the issues of separatist independent Papua no longer have a place in the hearts of the international community," he said.
Ali, who is also the chairman of the DPD Pemuda Mandala Trikora Papua, asked the police to process the Morning Star flag raisers in front of the Cenderawasih Gymnasium.
"If they are proven to have violated the law, they must be processed, because they have tarnished the image and principles of the sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia," Ali concluded.
As previously reported, the raising of the Morning Star flag by eight students in front of the Cenderawasih Jayapura Sports Hall, right next to the Papua Police Headquarters, was planned.
This was revealed by the Director of Criminal Investigation at the Papua Police, Kombes Pol. Faizal Rahmadani, to the media crew, Wednesday (1/12/2021) night.
"In the context of this incident, we are currently investigating the eight people regarding their roles," he said.
Faizal said that the findings of the planning to raise the flag followed information from several people who were being questioned when they were arrested during a long march.
"Based on the information of several people, the action was planned several days in advance," he said.
Meanwhile, the Coalition for Law Enforcement and Human Rights in Papua is still waiting for the results of the examination of the 8 students.
"Our legal advisors from the Papuan Law Enforcement and Human Rights Coalition have not accompanied the 8 students directly, because investigators have not upgraded their status," said Litigsai Coordinator Emanuel Gobay, Thursday (2/12/2021) morning.
Emanuel explained that his party waited until 13.00 WIT, today Thursday (2/12/2021) if the status had not been determined, then they would be released immediately.
The release was for the sake of law in accordance with the provisions of Law No. 8/1981 on the Criminal Procedure Code.
