Jayapura City Government intensifies vaccinations to avoid transmission of Omicron

The Jayapura City Government, Papua, has so far been aggressively vaccinating residents who have not been vaccinated and those who have not yet received the complete vaccine to avoid transmission of COVID-19, including the Omicron variant.

"It is true that the Jayapura City Government is currently collaborating with the TNI-Polri to open vaccine booths in public places to make it easier to reach, considering that this is an effort to avoid the spread of the Omicron variant," Jayapura Mayor Benhur Tomi Mano said in Jayapura, Friday.

He hopes that with the excitement of the vaccine, more people will be vaccinated so that communal immunity from the transmission of the virus can be realized, after reaching 70 percent of the total target for those who must undergo vaccination.

In addition, he hoped, the Papua provincial government would be proactive in anticipating the spread of the Omicron variant, considering that the virus was brought by residents traveling from outside Papua.

He said supervision at the airport must be tightened, especially for passengers from outside Papua, because this is not the authority of the Jayapura City Government.

For supervision at ports and the RI-PNG border, his party will tighten it.

"Currently, the PLBN Skouw, Jayapura, which is the entry and exit point for Vanimo, Papua New Guinea (PNG) is still closed," he said.

He acknowledged that COVID-19 cases in the area were already low. Currently, it is recorded that one resident is undergoing self-quarantine due to being positive for the virus which has become a world pandemic since 2020.

His party also always urges the public to continue to comply with health protocols, namely wearing masks, maintaining distance, and diligently washing hands when doing activities outside the home.
