PT PLN helps frozen warehouse for Raja Ampat fishermen
PLN (Persero) Customer Service Implementing Unit (UP3) Sorong provides frozen warehouse assistance or cold storage to meet the needs of fishermen from Solol Village, West Salawati District, Raja Ampat Regency, West Papua Province.
Manager of PLN UP3 Sorong, Martha Adi Nugraha in Sorong, Tuesday, said that his party will provide financial assistance worth Rp.250 for the people of Solol Village, West Salawati District, Raja Ampat Regency in 2021.
He said that the assistance was for frozen warehouses and ice cube stalls so that the fish caught by local fishermen can still be marketed.
According to him, the presence of cold storage is very much needed by the local community so that they can store their catch relatively longer, so that their economic value does not shrink.
Martha Adi explained that the assistance was part of the Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program. The goal is that the people of the village of Solol, who are mostly fishermen, can save their catch in order to improve the economy.
95 percent of the people in Sool Raja Ampat are fishermen. Since April 2021, local residents have enjoyed 24-hour electricity.
The problem faced by local fishing communities is that fish catches cannot last long because they do not have frozen warehouses. In addition, ice cubes for preserving fish must be purchased in the city of Sorong by boat and incur high costs.
Therefore, PLN UP3 Sorong provides a solution by providing frozen warehouse assistance that can be used to store ice, preserve fish.
Thus, the people of Solol village no longer need to buy ice cubes in the city of Sorong. Local fishermen do not have to worry about their catch because there is already a frozen warehouse.
He hopes that the TJSL program can improve the economy so that the standard of living of the people in Solol village is better.
