DPR West Papua: The Expansion of People's Aspirations, It Should Be Processed

The chairman of the West Papuan DPR, Orgenes Wonggor, responded to the action of a group of students against the division of a new autonomous region (DOB) in West Papua. Wonggor said pemekaran is an aspiration that must be listened to.

“This expansion is the aspiration of the people so we should process it according to the mechanism. Whether it is realized or not is the authority of the central government," said Wonggor, Thursday (3/2/2022) at the West Papua DPR office.
 
He said that the expansion of the new autonomous regions was for the benefit of the Papuan people and the people in West Papua. The expansion of new autonomous regions is a solution for regional development.

“I gave the example of Pegaf first before the expansion of the area was isolated, but after the expansion the development took place and the construction was very fast. This expansion should not be mixed with other issues because it is important for the community. If someone refuses to do so, please, that's part of democracy," he added.
 
On the same occasion, the Chairman of the Special Autonomy Faction of the DPR West Papua, George Dedaida, revealed many suggestions submitted by the community. Whether it's the division of provinces and districts / cities.
 
“Many proposals for expansion have been submitted to the Special Autonomy Faction. It is purely from indigenous peoples, which must be followed up by the West Papuan DPR,” he explained.

He conveyed that a number of proposals for expansion had already been submitted to the faction. At least 10 have been proposed.

Among them are South West Papua Province, Manokwari City, West Manokwari, Maybrat Sau, Immeke, Kokas, Moskona, South Raja Ampat, Sebiar, and several other areas.

The West Papua DPR also views that the people from the Domberay and Bomberay customary territories support the new autonomous regions proposal in West Papua Province, both provinces and districts/cities.
