As an effort to achieve equitable distribution of infrastructure throughout Indonesia, the government has implemented the development of the Thumburuni Market in Fakfak Regency, West Papua Province.

This development is under the Multi Years Contract (MYC) scheme using the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN) for the 2021-2023 Fiscal Year (TA) worth Rp. 104 billion.

The work on Thumburuni Market with ground breaking activities on Wednesday, February 9, 2022. The target is to complete in 570 working days. The Thumburuni Market is the first market in Papua Island that implements the Green Building (BGH) principle with the application of Building Information Modeling (BIM).

"Our hope is that the application of green building principles is not only in the planning stage, but also in implementation, as well as operation and maintenance," said Director of Strategic Infrastructure Essy Asiah.

This market will stand on an area of 9,568 square meters with a building area of 13,563 square meters. In addition, Thumburuni Market will be built with a height of 4 floors and includes a number of 974 stalls and 166 kiosks.

This development is a follow-up to the letter from the Regent of Fakfak regarding the request for rebuilding the Thumburuni Market which was burned due to the social unrest in 2019. The aim is to restore the function of the market as a trade infrastructure as well as the people's economy and to become a safe, comfortable, clean, organized and better building.

Meanwhile, the hope is that the new infrastructure can accommodate the activities of traders and meet the basic needs, clothing and electronics of the surrounding community.

"Do not forget that service providers carry out 5T, namely on time, right quality, right cost, right administration and right benefits in order to become a useful market for traders and also local people," said Essy.
