Warinussy: Governor Luke's statement is disproportionate, there is pain

Executive Director of the Manokwari Institute for Research, Assessment and Development of Legal Aid (LP3BH), Yan Christian Warinussy, responded to a video clip of Governor Lukas Enembe's remarks at an event, 'Papuans are not happy' disproportionately.

The short footage shows Lukas Enembe standing accompanied by a number of people. Luke wore a typical Papuan Batik shirt and a flower necklace. Video footage uploaded since Tuesday (8/2/2022) on social networks, elicited various reactions from netizens.

"My personal impression is seeing (the video) that he (Lukas Enembe) is still in a sick position. I emphasize that he is still in a sick condition," said Yan Christian Warinussy, Thursday (10/2/2022).

According to Warinussy, the decline in the health of the number one Papuan was seen when Governor Lukas spoke haltingly.

"From the way he spoke, the expression of his words, it didn't sound like the true meaning, it meant he was in a sick position," he continued.

Warinussy said Luke's statement could be easily analyzed, but difficult to understand. “It can be analyzed but it can also make it difficult for us to analyze. What is happening now in public, people are confused by Lukas Enembe's statement," he added.

As an advocate, Warinussy translated Governor Luke's statement as disproportionate. Lukas said he should be a person who better understands the condition of the people, knows what to do so that the Papuans prosper.

He revealed that the party who knows better about Lukas usually comes when officials from the center ask questions about Papua. They will ask the governor.

"His statement is disproportionate as a governor who should know the situation of his people, what he needs to do is heal their 'sickness', reduce their burden," he said.

For Warinussy, Luke's statement does not directly answer the public's question of where the Governor of Papua has been. “People are sick, suffering, terrorized, threatened, shot, where are you?” said Warinussy.

Governor continued Warinussy, should defend the people. For example, by calling for peace over conflicts in a number of areas. Obliged as a leader to prosper (meet the needs) of the community or stop shootings between the National Liberation Army of the Free Papua Movement and the TNI/Polri.

“What have you done? at least the governor has called for a stop to the shootings because it has made the people suffer," he said.

However, Warinussy said, Governor Lukas was not yet optimal. "We've been shouting all this time, only the governor, with the situation happening in front of his eyes, can't take important steps?" he asked.

Warinussy praised a number of Luke's decisions for Papua. "But what has he done to make society prosperous?" he concluded.

Previously, a 1 minute 23 second broadcast showed Papua Governor Lukas Enembe's speech.

In his speech, Lukas said, Papuans are not happy. “All of Papua. On this earth, the people who are not happy are Papuans. You note it. People don't live in happiness."

He revealed, a number of areas 'crying' at this time. There are Intan Jaya, Puncak, Nduga, Bintang Mountains, including Maybrat “People don't live normally in their own country. It's not safe to live, we weren't born for that," he said.
