Moeldoko Affirms Papuan Special Autonomy for Community Prosperity
Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko emphasized that the Papua Special Autonomy (Otsus) policy, which is contained in Law No. 2 of 2021, is for the prosperity of the people. According to him, with the Otsus policy, the province and the people of Papua have greater authority in administering the government and utilizing natural resources, so that they can be used as much as possible for the welfare of the community.
"Everything must return to the community, yes its welfare, yes its prosperity," said Moeldoko when opening a coordination meeting for the welfare development of the Saireri indigenous territory of Papua province.
He also emphasized the importance of dialogue in implementing development and community welfare in Papua. This is because Papua has a specificity with traditional and religious values that are deeply rooted in its people. "For this reason, the development of the welfare of the people of Papua and West Papua cannot be separated from the development of customary territories, with a cultural approach through dialogue," he explained.
The coordination meeting for the development of the welfare of the Saireri customary territory, which was held offline and online, was attended by 40 representatives of ministries/agencies, and the forkopimda of the Saireri customary territory. Some of the issues discussed included welfare development, governance, including development in the fisheries sector.
“The Saireri traditional area has various industries that have the potential to be developed. The implication is on the need for vocational education, marine and island spatial planning, and several other things. This is what we will discuss at this coordination meeting," explained Deputy V Chief of Presidential Staff of the Republic of Indonesia Jaleswari Pramodhawardani while chairing the meeting.
