BAKTI ensures the maintenance of the 4G BTS tower in the Bintang Mountains

The Telecommunications and Information Accessibility Agency (BAKTI Kominfo) ensures that the 4G Base Transceiver Station (BTS) tower built in the Bintang Mountains area, Papua, is well maintained.

"We have a contract with the consortium in the field that they must maintain this infrastructure properly, of course involving the community and the security forces," said BAKTI Kominfo President Director Anang Latif in Davos, Switzerland, when confirmed via video call from Jakarta.

Anang explained that his party continues to provide literacy to the local community regarding the care and maintenance of the 4G BTS tower infrastructure.
 
This is considered important so that when an obstacle occurs, the community does not panic and can find out the cause of the obstacle.

"This is important, we need to teach that if something happens with this infrastructure, of course, don't be surprised if for example the signal suddenly disappears. This is our experience at the beginning, many local people don't understand when this item, say the battery is taken, the signal suddenly disappears. In the future, we need to intensify socialization to the community to protect it," said Anang.

In addition, he said, BAKTI Kominfo also asked partners to empower local residents as BTS tower guards (site keeper). The guards were given special training on how to maintain 4G BTS towers.

The presence of 4G BTS tower guards is also important to prevent acts of sabotage that may be carried out by certain parties.

"This approach is quite effective in implementing this infrastructure in the future in addition to our approach, our cooperation, our coordination with the security forces to maintain the infrastructure," said Anang.

Separately, the Head of the Communication and Information Office of the Bintang Mountains Alferus Sanuari said that by empowering the local community, the potential for obstacles in the operation of 4G BTS towers could be minimized.

"So we empower them so that they feel ownership of the building, and they can maintain that the building can be used for a long time," he said.

Bintang Mountains is one of the regencies in Papua which is included in the outermost, underdeveloped, and frontier (3T) regions.

In 2022, as many as 196 4G BTS towers are planned to be built in the district with the capital city of Oksibil. The total proposed construction of telecommunication towers in the area is 261 points.

Of the planned construction of 4G BTS at 196 points, 44 of them are currently under construction. In the construction of a 4G BTS tower in the Bintang Mountains, BAKTI Kominfo partnered with a consortium of PT Infrastruktur Bisnis Sejahtera (IBS) and ZTE.

PT IBS together with ZTE are the winners of the Package 4 and Package 5 work tenders for the procurement of 4G BTS towers, in which the Bintang Mountains area is included in the package.

Currently, there are already 10 4G BTS towers on the air in the district with the slogan Terib Tibo Semo Nirya (Let's Rise to Build Together).
