Paulus Waterpauw met with MRPB

On the second day of carrying out his official duties as the Acting Governor of West Papua, Paulus Waterpauw met with leaders and members of the cultural institution of the West Papuan People's Council (MRPB), in Manokwari, Tuesday.

"As a native Papuan child who adheres to customs and culture, I am obliged to ask for the blessing of the leadership and all members of the MRPB institution as a representative institution of custom, religion, and women on this Cassowary Earth," said Waterpauw.

At the gathering, Waterpauw asked for various inputs from the leadership to members of the MRPB as a provision in implementing various policies in the government for the purpose of development and welfare of indigenous peoples within the framework of special autonomy (otsus).

"The MRPB institution is the 'spirit' of Otsus, therefore all policies and developments within the framework of Otsus in 13 districts and cities must receive MRPB considerations and recommendations, so that the implementation of Otsus can be measured in the next 20 years," he said.

Waterpauw also invited MRPB leaders and members to participate in socializing the sustainability of special autonomy and the proposed new autonomous regions (DOB) in each region.

"Together, we carry out good and affirmative state duties for all indigenous Papuans in West Papua Province, not for the interests of elites and certain groups," said Waterpauw.
