Infrastructure Development in Papua to Meet Advanced Indonesia

Good infrastructure is the foundation for the progress of a country and the hope of every citizen so that his life becomes more prosperous. In Indonesia, infrastructure development continues to be intensified to support the realization of an Advanced Indonesia.

Since 2014 the Government has been prioritizing the development of Eastern Indonesia, particularly in Indonesia's Easternmost Island, Papua.

Infrastructure development is carried out to support the acceleration of development in West Papua Province and Papua Province.

The government through the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) is committed to realizing reliable infrastructure development in order to reduce the poverty rate and poverty index as well as evenly distribute infrastructure development throughout Indonesia.

Especially in the provinces of Papua and West Papua, the government is serious about supporting the creation of an Advanced Papua. Some examples of infrastructure development, among others:

Development of XX PON Access, East Palapa Ring Optical Fiber, General TNI LB Moerdani Hospital, to the construction and improvement of a number of State Border Posts (PLBN), one of which is the Sota Border Cross Border Post in Merauke Regency as a form of the government's seriousness in building the Earth. Cenderawasih.

To support connectivity in the provinces of West Papua and Papua, the Government continues to build the Trans Papua Road which is part of the National Strategic Project (PSN) and is included in the 2020-2024 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN). The construction of airports, ports and bridges is also a form of the Indonesian government's real commitment to the Papuan people.

Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono said connectivity between regions needs to be improved, so that the flow of goods, services and people can be smoother and more efficient. Basuki added that with good connectivity, it is hoped that an increase in regional economic growth will occur.

Currently, the PUPR Ministry is building 29 bridges on the Merauke-Sorong section, Teluk Wondama Regency. The construction of this bridge is part of the continuation of the construction of the Trans Papua Road. Head of the West Papua National Road Implementation Center, Gunadi Antariksa, in his press statement said that the bridge to be built has a total length of 511.5 meters which will be built through six work packages.

The bridge construction packages are the Kampung Muri-Kwatisore Bridge Package I and II, the Telaga I Cs. Bridge Package, the Werianggi-Ambuni Bridge Package, the Log Cs. Bridge Package, and the Mawin I Cs. Bridge Package. The construction of the bridge package has started since January 2022 according to the contract, with a progress of 20.77% with a target for completion by the end of 2022.

Gunadi added that in addition to the bridge, the Ministry of PUPR also continues the construction of the Trans Papua Road on the Merauke-Sorong segment. According to him, there are several challenges in the construction of road and bridge infrastructure in Papua, such as weather conditions, and the natural condition which is still in the form of forest with fairly severe geographical conditions in almost all segments.

With the various challenges faced, increasing development in Papua is an obligation that should be carried out by the Government. With adequate infrastructure, the opening of connectivity in Papua, especially in mountainous and remote areas, will open up isolated areas, which in turn will reduce the prices of people's needs.

Infrastructure development on Cenderawasih Earth is proof of Indonesia's love for Papua. A rich island, with a just and prosperous society to welcome Indonesia Forward 2045.
