Papuan Student Conference Urges Government to Pass Bill on Newborns and Realization of Special Autonomy Volume II




HUNDREDS of Papuan students representing themselves as the Papuan Student Conference held a peaceful demonstration urging the Government to ratify the New Autonomous Region (DOB) Bill and the Realization of Special Autonomy Volume II in front of the DPR/MPR RI Building and the Ministry of Home Affairs Office, Tuesday (31/5). ).

The action began with an oration in front of the DPR/MPR RI Building. "The Papuan Student Conference urges the DPR to immediately ratify the new autonomous regions and support Otsus Volume II," said the mass representative who carried out the oration.

The demonstration was met by a member of the DPD RI for the West Papua electoral district, Filep Wamafma.

“I thank you very much for conveying your aspirations. We will convey and follow up according to the mechanism," he said in front of the mass of action.

The mass of action also conveyed a statement of attitude. First, reject all forms of demonstrations against the Ratification of the New Autonomous Region & Sustainability of Special Autonomy in Papua.

"We urge all elements and components of the Papuan community, both students and the community, to participate in maintaining security and conduciveness in Papua," the press release said.

They also urged the DPR to immediately ratify the New Autonomous Region Bill (DOB) for 3 regions (South Papua, Central Papua & Papua Mountains) for the sake of accelerating equitable distribution of development and social welfare.

Third, Supporting the continuation of the implementation of Otsus Papua Volume II with the consideration that the community currently really needs Otsus funds to overcome the problems that are being faced by the Papuan people such as basic needs, education, health and community sector development. Papua Special Autonomy must be implemented immediately with regulations for the benefit of the Papuan people, not on the basis of the interests of Papuan Regional Government officials.

Fourth, asking Papuan officials, politicians and intellectuals not to take advantage of the components of students, mass organizations and the community to take actions against the ratification of the new autonomous region bill & the sustainability of Papua Special Autonomy Volume II.

At the Ministry of Home Affairs, the crowd was received by the representative of the Directorate General of Politics and General Administration of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Timothy.

"We accept the aspirations of the younger students and we will immediately follow up," he said.

The person in charge of the action, Moyteur Boimasa, also submitted a press release containing a statement to the representatives of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The government and the DPR are currently drafting three draft laws (RUU) on the New Autonomous Region (DOB) of Papua which are targeted for completion by June 2022. The three bills are on the Establishment of the Province of South Papua, the Bill on the Formation of the Province of Central Papua, and the Draft Bill concerning the Establishment of the Central Highlands Papua Province.
