Ministry of Home Affairs claims 3 new autonomous regions law, Papuan people's hope after 20 years of processing

The approval of the 3 Draft Laws (RUU) on the New Autonomous Region (DOB) in Papua by the Indonesian Parliament is the hope of the people of the region, dubbed "Earth of Cendrawasih", after decades of process.
 
This was conveyed by the Head of the Information Center of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kapuspen Kemendagri) Benny Irawan, when contacted by the RMOL Political News Agency, Monday (4/7).

"This is what they have been waiting for for about 20 years in the process," said Benny.

He explained that the division of Papua Province had been in process for a long time and was born from the aspirations of the Papuan people, both from regional heads, traditional leaders, religious leaders, women leaders, and also youth leaders.

"Especially in South Papua, as well as in mountainous Papua. In South Papua, there is the Anim Ha customary area, in the La Pago Mountains and in the Central Papua region there is Mee Pago," said Benny.

"All these traditional leaders, and some of the representatives I mentioned earlier conveyed the same thing , the hope they were waiting for was the aspiration," he continued.

Therefore, with the ratification of the 3 Papua New Guinea Bills into law by the Indonesian House of Representatives, Benny ensured that the Ministry of Home Affairs would follow up on them as soon as they were promulgated by the government, in this case signed by President Joko Widodo.
 
"We are waiting for the promulgation by the government. According to the provisions, the government must promulgate it within 30 days at the latest," he said.
