Upholding Local Wisdom, the Jayapura City Government is Committed to Paying Attention to the Keondoafian Traditional House

In upholding the value of local wisdom in Tanah Tabi, the Jayapura City Government continues to pay more attention to the Keondoafian Traditional House.

This was emphasized by Assistant I of the Jayapura City Secretariat, Evert N Merauje specifically to Tribun-Papua.com in Jayapura, Wednesday (6/7/2022).

"We continue to pay attention to the Keondoafian Traditional House in Jayapura, and this is in line with the message of the Acting Mayor of Jayapura, Frans Pekey, for his mission to strengthen traditional institutions," he said.

Furthermore, Evert explained that the construction of traditional houses is given equally to all people, according to the vision and mission of the Mayor of Jayapura in maintaining cultural values or local wisdom.

"One of the ways to maintain local wisdom is of course keeping the Ondoafi traditional house, so that it can continue to be active and become a house that is functioned properly," said Evert.

The smiling man said that the construction of the Ondoafi traditional house of the Jouwe Tribe in Tahima Soroma Village, Kayo Island, which had just been officially inaugurated, was something that should be appreciated.

"Because for us in the government, of course, many decision-makers also listen to Ondoafi, meaning that from the traditional side, they are also involved," he said.

For this reason, Ondoafi's traditional house in Jayapura can also be a place for friendship between anyone, including Ondoafi and the government.

"How the discussion and exchange of ideas for Tanah Tabi, this earth of Port Numbay can continue, because this also signifies a good process," he said.

Not only about the Keondoafian traditional house, his party also pays attention to the preservation of regional languages, which Evert considers that currently they have begun to be forgotten.

"This means that according to custom, everything must be preserved like local languages, seeing the current phenomenon in villages, not a few are also passive speakers, who can only hear and understand the meaning, but cannot speak the regional language fluently and understandably," he explained.

For that, he said, the government needs to take a role in efforts to preserve customs, one of which is traditional houses and regional languages.
