Jayapura City Health Office Asks Residents to Beware of the Spread of the PMK Virus
The Jayapura City Government (Pemkot) remains wary of the spread of the Mouth and Nail Disease Virus (PMK) from livestock, although no cases have been found yet.
This was said by the Head of the Jayapura City Health Service (Kadinkes), Dr. Ni Nyoman Sri Antari to Tribun-Papua.com in Jayapura, Monday (8/8/2022).
"Regarding the PMK Virus, in our case, of course, it spreads from animals and so far there have been no reports of case findings, there are many findings in Java," he said.
However, Ni Nyoman emphasized that his party is still increasing vigilance and it is necessary to pay attention to the community as well.
"Actually, the point is that people live clean and healthy, our main problem in Jayapura is dengue fever, malaria, which the community must be aware of," he said.
For this reason, he continued, his party reminded the residents of Jayapura City to continue to apply the Clean and Healthy Lifestyle (PHBS).
"Because if we have implemented PHBS, the potential for getting the disease will be minimal, it is better to prevent than to treat that is our principle," said Ni Nyoman.
Just to note, Mouth and Nail Disease (FMD) is a viral infectious disease that is acute and highly contagious.
This disease attacks all hoofed or even-toed animals, such as cows, buffalo, pigs, goats, sheep, including wild animals such as elephants, deer and so on.
Previously, it was also known that PT Angkasa Pura I, Sentani Airport, Jayapura, Papua Province together with the Jayapura Class I Agricultural Quarantine Center installed a disinfectant carpet at the arrival gate, to prevent the entry of the mouth and nail disease virus (PMK).
This disinfectant carpet is useful to prevent the FMD virus from being carried by passengers through footwear which is feared to be transmitted to livestock.
