Mahfud MD Confirms Luke Enembe's alleged corruption case is not a political engineering

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD emphasized that the alleged corruption case of Papua Governor Lukas Enembe was not a political fabrication.

Mahfud explained that currently the situation in Papua is rather heated because it is reported that there will be a large-scale demonstration on September 20, 2022 with the theme of saving Lukas Enembe.
 
The background, he continued, was because Lukas as governor had been named a suspect by the KPK some time ago and now feels confined to his home at the governor's official residence.
 
In response to this, Mahfud emphasized three points.

This was conveyed during a press conference at the office of the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Central Jakarta, Monday (19/9/2022).

"First, the case of Lukas Enembe is not a political fabrication, it has nothing to do with political parties or certain officials, but is a finding and legal fact," said Mahfud.

He also explained that the alleged corruption allegations against Lukas were not only in the form of an alleged gratuity amounting to Rp. 1 billion, but also hundreds of billions.
 
Second, the government is currently blocking accounts related to Lukas per day with a nominal value of IDR 71 billion.
 
Third, he said, there are other cases being investigated related to Luke.

"But related to this case, for example, hundreds of billions of leadership operational funds, PON management funds, then also the existence of money laundering managers carried out or owned by Lukas Enembe," he said.

Furthermore, he said, BPK so far has not been able to carry out inspections because it always cannot be examined.

Thus, he said, BPK was more of a disclaimer for the financial case in Papua.

"Therefore, the legal evidence found its own way and the cases were found," said Mahfud.
