7 Student Participants of the YPMAK Scholarship Return to Campus After Undergoing PPL at SATP

7 students participating in the Amungme and Kamoro Community Empowerment Foundation scholarships (YPMAK) were recalled to De La Salle Catholic University Manado, after carrying out Field Experience Practice (PPL) at the Papua Taruna Boarding School (SATP).

The withdrawal of 7 PPL students was marked by the handover of souvenirs from the Dean of the Faculty of Education (FIP) Catholic University De La Salle Manado to the Head of Representative for the Lokon Education Foundation (YPL), on Friday (18/11/2022).

The PPL 7 students participating in the YPMAK scholarship are a collaboration between De La Salle Catholic University, Manado and YPL starting on September 14, 2022.

YPL itself is an educational partner of YPMAK which manages the partnership fund PT Freeport Indonesia, which manages SATP.

PPL Student Representative, Anince Pigai expressed his gratitude to God Almighty for giving the opportunity to 7 students to carry out PPL at SATP.

During the 2-month PPL, he gained a lot of experience, both learning inside and outside the classroom.

“We are really happy to be able to practice at SATP. And hopefully what we get can be useful for the future, "he said.

Meanwhile the Head of SATP, Johanna MM Tnunay said, she thanked Unika De La Salle for entrusting SATP in guiding students for PPL.

He admitted that this was the first time this program had been carried out at SATP, and the students who came were indigenous Papuan children participating in the YPMAK scholarship program.

"In the implementation of PPL, they followed it well without any complaints. This proves that they have implemented their professionalism as a prospective teacher. In the future, we hope they can return to teaching at this SATP. So there is an inner attachment to teaching. And there are students who were sent to SATP again," he said.

Meanwhile, YPL-SATP Deputy Head of Education and Development Representative, Oktavianus V Rori said, on behalf of YPL, his party expressed appreciation to YPMAK for providing full support to 7 students in carrying out their studies at Dela Salle Catholic University, Manado.

He continued, this PPL is in line with YPL's vision and mission, which is to prepare the best cadres from Tanah Amungsa. For this reason, good cooperation is needed in carrying out a concrete vision in realizing institutional independence.

“We admit that it is very difficult to find elementary school teachers in Timika. Therefore, we thank Unika for sending PPL students to SATP. And to the 7 students, keep in mind the 4 existing competencies for success, namely professional, social, pedagogical, and personality," he said.

The Director of YPMAK, represented by the Head of the YPMAK Education Division, Feri Uamang, said that the need for human resource development (HR) in Timika is for teachers and health workers.

Therefore, YPMAK collaborates with various educational partners, such as Unika De La Salle to be able to produce quality and resilient human resources.

This is a serious concern for YPMAK, so that there are teachers for native Papuan children. Where they know more about the existing conditions and culture.

"So far the teachers who have been sent to the hinterland and the coast have not been serious. Some even come during exams and this is a problem. Therefore, when students have finished their studies, they can return to the regions to develop human resources," he said.

On that occasion, Feri also reminded the 7 students to pay attention to study time. Where, new scholarship guidelines and this has been conveyed in the study cities that it cannot be more than 5 years.

Therefore, after PPL to be serious about this, so that they can finish their studies on time.

"The study limit is 5 years, in order to provide opportunities for others to get the same thing (scholarships)," he said.

The Chancellor of De La Salle Catholic University, Prof. Dr. Johanis Ohoitimur said, this PPL was a collaboration between De La Salle Catholic University and YPL, whose background was YPMAK's Monev to De La Salle Catholic University.

Where, at that time he thought after graduation where they work. It turns out that all this time YPMAK has been helping as a scholar and then looking for each other.

"From that came the idea, why scholarship recipients do not return to the region. Because of that we coordinated with YPL and finally PPL could do it," he said.

He continued, at De La Salle Catholic University, students of the YPMAK scholarship program would apply for PPL to the regions. This is in line with YPMAK's vision and mission of empowerment.

"We make sure that every year there will be PPL participants sent here. And the first 2 months of PPL have proven that the program can be said to be successful," he said.
