Bulog: Rice stocks in Papua and West Papua are 27 thousand tons

The Public Company (Perum) Bulog Regional Office for Papua and West Papua stated that the availability of rice in Papua and West Papua Provinces was 27 thousand tons.

Operational Manager of Public Service Bureau of Logistics Agency for Regional Offices of Papua and West Papua Muh. Yusri Muin in Jayapura, Friday, said that with the average need for distribution per month to regencies and cities reaching five to seven thousand tons, the current stock of rice is sufficient for the next four months.

"So the stock is very safe during the celebration of Christmas on December 25 2022 and welcoming the new year 2023," he said during a sudden inspection by the Jayapura City Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID), Friday.

According to Yusri, the availability of special rice stocks for the Jayapura area currently reaches 12 thousand tons and there are also shipments of 1,250 tons more.

"So for Jayapura it is certain that the availability of rice stocks is very strong because it is for distribution to several regencies and also to Wamena, Papua Mountains Province," he said.

He explained that the rice sent to Bulog Papua came from South Sulawesi Province because rice production in Merauke in 2022 had decreased slightly.

He added that his party appealed to the public not to panic because the availability of rice at Perum Bulog Papua and West Papua is guaranteed to be safe and the price is under control.

"So in the next month, people don't need to worry because we make sure that rice stocks are very safe," he said.
